The Vision

When i told my mom I was having a "Haunted Mansion" themed wedding she blurted out, "like Disney!?!" and then proceeded to fall over laughing. No, it's not like Disney, there won't be any crystal balls with talking heads in them and we won't have ghost holograms sitting next to you (but you know that'd be way cool).

Right after I got engaged, literally days later, my girl friends and I went to New Orleans and I think that had a big influence on me. It was the best trip ever, if you haven't been to NOLA I highly recommend it. We went to a burlesque show, ate in haunted restaurants, and our hotel bar was originally a bordello. It was awesomeness all around and I loved how everything felt really old (because it is). Below is a picture that hung on the wall of the bordello turned bar. You gotta love those stalkings!

I began to picture my wedding  like walking into a big old house with creaky floors and dusty furniture everywhere. Tarnished tea pots and big drippy candles on shabby lace table squares. It's Halloween weekend so I knew I wanted something creepy and this fits the bill with out being super "Halloweeny".

I hope I've given a clear explanation of whats going on in my head. There has been a lot of confusion as to the decor. I've had to stop describing it as a Halloween wedding because people get the wrong idea. There will be no pumpkins, no costumes, no fall leaves of any kind, and def no orange!

We aren't getting married in a big old house like I originally wanted ( more on the venue later), so I've been thinking of ways to make it feel like you're in an old mansion. Instead of table numbers how about every table is a different room in the house. The seating chart will tell you whether you're in the den, library, the master suite and so on. Depending on what center piece items i can drudge up at yard sales and thrift stores that will
determine what kind of "rooms" i have.                                                                        Image Source

Any other ideas to make a room "mansiony", I'm all ears...well not really, that would be gross.

  1. Really like the idea of each table is a different room in the house.
